About Turtle Mat
Turtle Mat was founded by James Turtle in 1994. He came across a cotton, washable mat that had been used in Scandinavian marine industries for many years. James realised there was also a great domestic potential and brought the product into the UK.
Why are Turtle Mats so highly rated?
Turtle Mats have a cotton rich pile, which absorbs 95% of moisture and dirt before it’s brought into your home. This will work by simply walking over the mat – which is why we are so popular with pet owners! Classic Turtle Mats are 70% cotton and 30% micro fibres (these help to collect dust and dry dirt), and the Design range is 100% cotton pile.
Turtle Mats can be machine washed at 40°. They can even be tumble dried on a low heat.
Turtle Mats come with a 5 year guarantee, although we often meet people who have owned their mat for 10 years or more!
There are 2 types of backing - either latex or nitrile rubber. This is a strong synthetic rubber that will not break down in repeated washing and one of the reasons why Turtle Mats are recommended by Amtico and Karndean for laminate flooring. The latex backing is ideal on hard floors, but may creep on a carpet. The multi grip backing gives additional grip on both hard floors and carpets.
Turtle Mats are functional, durable - and hopefully more attractive than conventional mats.
"We bought some Turtle Mats to stop our dogs muddy paw prints but they really showed what they can do at our firework evening. Around 70 people turned up and the weather was awful - the rain turned the garden into a mud bath. My wife and I were resigned to the fact that we would have to clean our carpets but at the end of the evening we could not believe how clean they were. The Turtle Mats looked like they had been through hell but when they had been washed and dried they looked as good as new. I thoroughly recommend Turtle Mats and have bought some for my wife's parents for Christmas - they are money well spent."

Washing
Turtle Mats can be hand or machine washed at a maximum temperature of 40°. It is important to never use fabric conditioner or a “2 in 1” washing powder; this will affect both the absorbency and the grip of your mat.
All Turtle Mats can be cut if necessary – there is no risk of fraying as they don’t have a continuous thread.
Never place your Turtle Mat on a damp floor.
It is always best to check the load limit on your washing machine first, but Turtle Mat aim to only supply mats that will comfortably fit into a standard domestic machine. The maximum washing weight normally ranges from 5kg-7kg – the heaviest Turtle Mat (75x150cm Classic Multi-grip) weighs 2.6 kg dry and approx 5kg wet. Please contact us if you would like to know the weight of your mat.
Eco-Friendly
Turtle Mats are manufactured in Britain and Denmark by one of the World’s most environmentally aware textile groups. They are recognised for their continuous efforts to reduce waste and have been awarded the highest global standards in quality products and environmental management. The group has recently achieved carbon negative status by planting one million trees every year and by producing green energy in its own hydroelectric plants
